Finally after eight years of the tyrannical rule of the Republican Party, Americans are once again a free people. While officially the Republicans still control our government in a lame duck capacity until Inauguration Day, the Democrats now have the needed power to abolish any last minute efforts by the Republicans to benefit their political or personal positions. For the first time in a very long time, the American people are once again in control of their lives, in control of their government and in control of their destiny. We have won the battle. We can bask in the glory for a day. But the American people and the Democrats have a long and difficult battle ahead. We must take this opportunity to restore our government to greatness and to right the wrongs perpetrated by the past years of Republican rule. We must succeed. This may be our last chance. We absolutely must succeed.

Many Americans fail to understand that our economic problems didn't just start with George W. Bush. No, our economic problems actually began with Ronald Reagan. Oh, but Reagan was a great President you say. Well, not exactly. Reagan's supply-side economics and his laissez-faire (hands off everything) policies of deregulation actually started the economic downfall that American’s are experiencing today. Thanks to Reagan, America has spiraled downward for over twenty-five years.

It was Reagan's supply-side economics and his laissez-faire policies that initiated the process of American Corporations outsourcing American jobs overseas. Reagan's famed deregulation of the Airline Industry has proven time and time again to be a total failure. It was Reagan's laissez-faire policies that allowed many American Corporations to break labor unions by using the threat of outsourcing to control the demands of American workers. At the end of Regan's last term, millions of American workers had lost high paying jobs with major American Corporations and were forced to accept lower paying jobs with small Mom and Pop companies. Many of these workers were forced to accept reduced benefits or no benefits at all. The stage was set.

The Bush clan dispensed their own brand of destructive politics with their truckle-down (give money to the wealthy and let it trickle down to you and me) economic theories. Truckle-down economics has and always will be a total failure. Money given to the wealthiest sectors of the population never ever trickles down. That is the very essence of the problem with trickle-down economics. Money given to the wealthy stays in the hands of the wealthy in the form of huge salaries and bonuses. While American's wealthiest citizens got wealthier and while oil companies recorded record breaking profits, America's middle and lower classes were pushed deeper and deeper into poverty.

Enter Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress. Now, the American people once again have control of their government. Americans can once again hold their heads high and have hope for the future. Americans have fought hard and defeated a difficult and ferocious beast. The tyranny at last will end, but the work has only begun.

There is, however, a great danger looming which is much greater than the collapse of America's economy. That great danger is the failure of Democrats to act, the failure of Democrats to remedy the failed American policies, and the failure of Democrats to right the wrongs of the last twenty-six years. It is imperative that the Democrats step up and take responsibility and take control.

The Democrats must put their political differences aside and stand together in a unified effort to solve, once and for all, America's potentially fatal problems. Failure and complacency are not options. The American people expect success from the Democrats and the American people will accept nothing less than success. Don't make the mistakes of the past. Don't be distracted from the duties at hand. It will be a long and difficult journey for all Americans, but we must succeed. Success is our only option. If all American's pull together as one body, we will succeed. We have to succeed. It's our only option.
